Dear Lesley Your mistake in using a wrong stitch or wrong ground is a very common one. There are some traditional indicators used to help with this problem, or you can devise your own. I had problems making sure which was which in a circular design in a recent book of mine. I wasted two pieces before I managed one with honeycomb rings altenating with ones filled with clothwork. I did this by colouring in the clothwork rings. There are many who would say we should stick to the traditional indicators. My own approach is to draw, colour or add anything else to my pricking that helps me avoid errors. It also helps if you write a 'key' on the pricking so you will know what your hieroglyphics mean when you want to repeat it in 10 years time.
