I found that sandwiching a bookmark between two rulers worked quite well. It did need a bit of jigging around but not as much as I think you'd need with a knitting needle. I have this feeling that I also used a clean chopstick to poke the tassle on the end straight. Helen in Dorset who really ought to accept that sewings-in are an important part of lace and so get on and finish that beginner's piece of Torchon!
