You know, I have yet to encounter the computer program or internet provider
which recognizes the word "internet" as a word. I don't think we can take
their opinion on lace related material too seriously until they repair
this flaw.

On this one, I was told by my (computer engineer) husband some time ago
that the correct form is "the Internet" - ie the i should be in upper
case. I think this goes back to the people who created it (something
about over a drink in a ?Cambridge pub) rather than any other reason - I
wouldn't see it as being a proper noun otherwise.
As one of The Lace Guild's proof reading team, I go with the Guild's
style - and have added "lacemaking" and "lacemaker" to my computer's
dictionary. The programmers who create these dictionaries only go for
the most common words - so "lace" and "maker" are recognised -
"lacemaker", which is jargon to our craft, is not one that they thought
of, obviously!
There is also be a difference between American and English as far as the
English language is concerned - and many of the word processing packages
we use are aimed primarily at the American market - think how many times
we in the UK have had to alter the default language on a new computer to
avoid continually having to tell the spell-checker to "ignore"!
