First of all, a sidestep. Can anyone tell me the origin (and meaning) of
the saying "For two pins......"

Don't know the origin but, the way I've always heard/seen ithe phrase used, meant "without much encouragement" or "for a small price". It's always used in the same way: "for two pins, I'd... (do something or other)". Must have been invented once the pins were factory made and no longer expensive :)
