We had to go through this once when we were ordered to evacuate, but we had 24 hours notice. A fire would be different. Still, as we packed our van, we took what meant the most and we took what couldn't be replaced. I took all my lace books and supplies!

If I just had time for one lace book, I would take my copy of T. L. Huetson's "Lace and Bobbins". It's autographed...so could not be replaced. My second choice would be an old Russian book I have that was a gift from Betty Kemp when she was Southern Director of IOLI. But honestly, if the time was that short, I would take my pillows and bobbins and then come back for books... and grab an armful!

Everyone should try this sometime...packing like that. It was an eye-opening experience as far as the things we realized that we could live without.
