Hello Fellow Spiders,

Just my 2 cents worth on some of the recent subjects being discussed.

I was taught that the leash length should be 1 - 1.5x the length of the
bobbin - I tend to lengthen the threads on the practice pilow at the
Powerhouse Museum on the rare occasions that I get involved with it (and
almost every other pillow anyone lets me near to play on). This is for
Midlands style bobbins on a ?18" pillow.

On a lovely large Continental style pillow (60 or even 70 cms, 24" +),
using any sort of bobbin, and usually quite fine threads, my leashes are
usually 2.5 x bobbin length or longer. This allows you to throw the
bobbins - which is very fast and and self-tensions the lace. I also
usually do the first cross of the next stitch at the same time as the
final cross on the current stitch when I am throwing the bobbins working
linen stitch.

For stranded gimps in point ground, I think Ulrike Voelcker recommends 8x
the working thread or 6x the next thickest thread in the same range. I
have tried the 8-thicknesses, despite mutterings from the sidelines, and
it is a rather nice weight. The multiple threads can become a little
untidy around nook pins and it needs a bit of fiddling to keep all of the
threads tidy with the staggered finishing of individual threads.
