I did suggest to the seller that they were football boot studs, but someone
else beat me to it - mine is the second note. I wouldn't say they were 19th
century - my husband and brothers used to hammer them into their football
boots probably until the mid 50s. In fact we found a bag of them in my FIL's
garden shed when we cleared the house after he died. Put them in the trash.

At least the seller happy being corrected.
