I once made a hairpin lace shawl. Because it's so open, it's a great
way to turn a single skein of expensive yarn into a shawl. I learned
one thing from the experience -- hairpin crochet really *stretches*,
especially when done with a heavier yarn (I used a chenille)! If you
try designing your own piece, make it much shorter than you think it
should be.

Somewhere I have a couple small hairpin lace forks from Lacis. They
make really quick handkerchief edgings.
