Hi,

My Mother learned every fiber art there ever was and practiced most
sewing, embroidery, needlepoint, crochet, knitting, tatting, battenburg,
hardanger, cut work, and on it goes. While embroidering one day, I mentioned
I'd like to see what bobbin lacing is like and she promptly discouraged me ---
to no avail. Unfortunately, she had passed on by the time I found a teacher
and started learning to lace. Every once in awhile I hear a little voice from
above telling me, I told you not to get involved with bobbin lace. Mostly when
I am retro lacing or frustrated over a particular pattern.

I had never heard
of bobbin lacing but was reading fiction books of "merry old" which talked
about the lady of the manor or a member of royalty teaching the peasants to
lace to keep food on the table. My curiosity was born and mellowed for 10
years. I had never seen it being made nor had I ever seen an actual piece of
bobbin lace but I wanted to learn. 20+ years later I am still learning.
