I would like to thank all of you that responded to my question - both on and off the list. After reading all the replies, I realized that I was overanalyzing the cordonnet. Also, although the book explained how to do it, I had a hard time visualizing it and applying it to a more complex pattern. It definitely makes a lot more sense now!
