This was posted by another person elsewhere, and I thought perhaps would be of interest to the group? (She gave her permission to post it). Just wanted to share a little bit about an interesting event yesterday. I was invited to demonstrate lace knitting at a Fiber Arts Celebration in Andover, MA in the ballroom of beautiful hotel there. I was the only lace knitter invited. They put my table in an area with three women who were demonstrating bobbin lacemaking, one of them was making traditional Ipswich Lace. The event was very well attended and lots of women came by to watch lace knitting. I had a table spread with several of my lace shawls, including 5 of the ones that are in my book (I was also allowed to sell and sign copies of the book). It was really exciting to see how many women were interested in lace knitting. Some had done it but most were just getting started. Two of them wore absolutely beautiful sweaters they had made with pretty lace patterns. The featured speaker of the day was Brunonia Barry, author of the popular book "The Lace Maker" and, before her talk, she came over to watch us making lace. Her book is about Ipswich lace, of course, but she spent quite a bit of time with me and we had such a nice talk. She got a copy of my book and said she'd like to talk to me at another time so maybe lce knitting will work its way into one of her stories. It was really an exciting experience and I'm so happy to have been the representative for lace knitting at the event. I'm going to post this on a couple other forums so if you get it twice, please forgive me. But it is always so exciting to be able to share adventures in knitting lace!
