No one has a report on the Chicago lace day/s or elsewhere, and updates on
what is happening at Sweet Briar?

I did write a little about the Chicago L.A.C.E. Lace Day but it was about my
beginners class.  Maybe someone else can write about their experiences.   I
had little time to enjoy the vendors and display as my class ended up taking
all day, but I did manage to pick up my pre-ordered shopping and a couple of
bobbins.  I bought an ethafoam pillow from Kenn van Dieren along with a rotary
hackle plier.  I have been using these when working with short lengths of gimp
thread.   I bought a brass one from Kenn in Montreal at the IOLI convention,
but this new one is wooden like a Midlands bobbin.  I have a couple of others
made in wood and Corian by Richard Worthen. The Beds piece I had been working
had a number of short gimps so I was looking for more of them.

I did a search on the Cabelas outdoor suppliers website and they have two
rotary ones available but I have not seen them or know how much they weigh.
We have one of these stores not too far away so if  get a chance to go in that
direction I might venture in.  When I first passed the sign I thought it was
for an Italian restaurant.

Yesterday I had 6 new lace students.  Three finished the butterfly project.
Two had to leave early and finished one side and one was a little slow,
probably due to her age and forgetfulness.  I haven't given up on her and as
she is a friend she can come to my house for more instruction.  Several in the
class came from other States such as Michigan, Indiana and Wisconsin.  A
couple of them were
younger, probably in their thirties which is
encouraging.  One of those joined the guild and I hope she keeps coming so we
can nurture her interest in lace.
