What a week of making lace! 27 hours of class, officially. Many spent extra hours at their projects, also.
I was in the Binche class. It was the quietest class I've even been in. The concentration level was off the scale! One lady was required to stand up and move every so often, so she brought a timer. When it went off, several of us would get up to walk a bit. I usually get too involved and forget about moving....then moan and groan when I try to stand up again. This time I moved enough not to have my knees get stiff. Thank you to the lady with the timer. I made half my pattern at SB. A bit more was done in the motel while I was being a tourist. If I can keep at it, it should be done before summer is over. (I can always hope!) The weather cooperated by not raining. It was a bit warm outside at times, though. I went to Virginia a bit early and toured Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown and Monticello. After the week of lacing I toured around Lynchburg and saw the Point of Honor house, Jefferson's small house Poplar Forest, and a Victorian mansion Avoca in Alta Vista. I recommend visiting Avoca if you are in the area. It's the loveliest house I've seen. It belongs to the city and is the site of many weddings and other functions. It was a long plane ride home. I was up at 3am EST to catch the early(!!!) plane out of Lynchburg (which landed late) and just made the transfer in Atlanta 10 minutes before scheduled takeoff. It's nice to be home. The cats were happy to see me. I can see (in the house) that I have work ahead of me to bring order back. If anyone has to spend time in a Lynchburg motel, I recommend the Best Western. Everything was very nice and the people are helpful. The price is very reasonable....AND... the room had a table just perfect for holding a lace pillow that slanted slightly into my lap AND enough lights to see my threads. How often does that happen! (No connection with the chain...just a happy customer. It was so pleasant the first night I was there that I went back for 3 more before coming home.) Thanks to Clay for a great week of lace. Thanks to Judy for being my roommate. And thanks to Sweet Briar for fitting us into their schedule.
