Kenn has been talking about his experience with the I.O.L.I. Lacemaking
Proficiency Program. He did a fabulous job with the Torchon Technical
Proficiency journal and was first to receive his proficiency pin.

For those of you unfamiliar with the program, I.O.L.I. currently offers 5
different journals. The journals cover Torchon Technical Proficiency (working
patterns designed by others), Torchon Mastery (working original designs), Tape
Laces (Milanese, Schneeberger, Idrija, and Russian), Point Ground Laces
(Bucks, Tonder, Polychrome, Chantilly, and Blonde), and Advanced Study (design
your own study program for a lace or laces of your interest). Participants
register for the program and receive and copy of the journal. Each journal is
$25 US. They then work at their own pace - there is no deadline for
completion - to complete the exercises. Once done, their portfolio can be
submitted for assessment if they wish. Some people have chosen to work in
groups and, although each lacemaker must do their own work, mentoring and
working with others is strongly encouraged.

At the moment, 3 new journals for tatting, guipure, and needle lace are under
development for release in the future.
