Here in Virginia Beach, VA we have Ferry Plantation House (1830 - 1850). We have a pillow and bobbins in the house thought to date around the mid 1800's. It was found and bought at a barn sale not far away from the house. My theory is if the pillow was here, someone was making lace on it.

I am trying to figure out what kinds of lace would be extant and available
to American and Canadian women (urban and fairly rich, I guess) to
decorate their clothes (especially coiffes).
