Hello Francis,
south of Hamburg is a museum where you could see a lot of fantastic works "gloves" without fingertips but long till the ellbow. Most of them are knitted mostly decorated with pearls and other things. Those gloves belonged to the cloths people in these region weere wearing. Unhappily I don't know how old they are but at least 100 years probably older. This is museum didn't had a website when I was there a few yars ago and by heart I can't tell you neither the name nor the city. I try to find it. Old knitted doillies you see in some smaller museums which are in German named Heimatmuseum but I can't remember one or more special ones. And, what's more important things changed in our museums during the last 10 years a lot. Try to find out via internet.
