Faye, it's not that simple as it depends on how wide the lace is. You need the length of each side plus 8 times the width of the lace (minimum!) The outside of the lace has to be long enough to right along the edge of the finished hankie including the lace.

If your hankie is, say 20 cm x 20 cm, and the lace is 5 cm wide you would need (5 cm + 20 cm + 5 cm) for each side making a total of 120 cm.

If your lace was only 2cm wide you'd only need (2cm + 20 cm + 2 cm) x 4 = 96cm
