Dear Lacemakers,

Have waited a while for someone else to comment on the Broomstick Lace
feature article in the November-December issue of "PieceWork". If you were
one of the people interested in this subject in recent months, you can locate
magazine at a major American bookstore like Barnes & Noble or Borders. It
is often possible to sit down in the store and read part of a magazine.
There are a series of pictures showing how to do this crochet technique.
The "broomstick" in this case is a large knitting needle. There are
instructions for a darling Scottish-style christening bag, plus the story of
this
tradition. Pages 32-35.

Next, there is a crocheted-lace challenge (contest) which involves
crocheting your version of a Maltese edging (looks like Bedfordshire Maltese
lace,
featuring leaves). It would be nice to see some Arachnes enter. Page 22.
 Deadline Jan. 15, 2010.

Some of you might like to read about "Three Centuries at Sajou, Purveyors
of French Needlework Supplies", page 38. Google Maison Sajou for more
information. On French language articles, you can sometimes click on
"translation" and Google takes care of the rest.

There are knitted lacy stockings from Weldon's, translated to modern terms,
on page 16 AND a lacy garter-stitch scarf (Orenburg) made with angora
yarn, page 49.

And much more.

The deadline for submitting articles for next year's Lace Issue is Dec. 1,
2009.
