I've just learned how to enlarge digital images and keep them sharp using
Photoshop Elements. Eve tried it with Paint Show Pro and it worked for her
as well.
Open the photo you want to resize.
On the image menu, select, image then resize.
In the window that opens:
Make sure proportions are constrained.
Change the height or width to the desired size.
Increase the resolution (I've double the resolution with success, but 20%
will increase a 10x6 inch 6 megapixel image to 36x24 poster according to the
example in the techniques book I've got).
Move to resample image and select Bicubic sharper (default is Bicubic)
instead of Adobe's recommended Bicubic smoother.
Click on OK.
Save the image before printing.
I did this with an image I wanted to turn into a cross stitch pattern using
Royal School of Needlework cross stitch creating software and the resulting
pattern was much better with the enlarged image than the original and also
for an illustration accompanying a lace pattern which was too small to
really see what stitches had been used. Useful too if you want to produce a
poster for an event with a larger image than you currently have.
