It possibly was, but there are still many publications - especially
Guild magazines and low-budget instruction books where full colour
printing would be far too expensive to contemplate. Many of the
magazines are dependent upon members' contributions in the way of
patterns and articles, and it is here where the terminology can differ
from pattern to pattern - it requires a very observant editor to ensure
consistency, to save confusing those reading! The letter definitions, CT
etc, are very helpful in that they clearly show which stitch is being
referred to. I also find it much less tongue-tying to teach a stitch
naming the moves "cross, twist, cross" than the "two over three....."
sequence! However, some people are more numerically minded and find the
numbers easier to understand than the words.... we are all different!
