I am contemplating a trip to Italy which may take the form of driving from
Milan, through the Veneto, to Venice, then possibly to Florence, possibly
to Rome. This would be in September.
I am wondering what lace places there may be in the vicinity to visit.
Pellestrina, Chioggia, and Bologna were all places associated with lacemaking,
but I don't know that there are any museums, or anything lace related to
see there. What is the current status of the sights in Burano? It is a long
boat ride, and if it hasn't changed from the last time I was there, about 8
years ago, I am not sure it is worth it. When I was last in Florence the
Palazzo Davanzati was closed, but I heard it had lace. Is it open and
showing lace? Is there a museum with lace in Venice? I seem to recall there
was
supposed to be one, but it was closed when I was there last. Also, there is
the Fortuny Museum. I saw some slides of lace designs that were in the
Fortuny museum, but I don't know if they are usually on display, or anything
about them. Is there any lace to see in Rome? Rapallo is not exactly on the
way, but the trip isn't really decided on. I think there is or was a lace
museum there. Is anyone familiar with it? Have I left out any other lace
sights that I should be thinking about? I have been to the Poldi Pezzoli in
Milan and am not sure I want to tax the patience of the spouse with another
visit.
Any suggestions appreciated.
