"For warp, I think of "Star Trek".  Warp speed is obviously going forward, not
sideways."  Robin P.

I think for some lay persons, they think of the word "warp" as being something
that is warped, so often think that that could be the thread that gets
shaped/wrapped/"warped" around things, so confusion.
Carpet mills make the "warp" speed reference as in Star Trek, when
selling/explaining.  Weft for a speech impediment or rhyme with Left and Right
is very common.
I like the "warp like the strings of a harp" (perhaps because I made it up
myself).  Admittedly, harp strings aren't completely
vertical/plumb/perpendicular to the floor, but it is simple and fast.
Oddly I don't think of warp speed having to be in a straight line, just fast.
Perhaps it is my years of driving racing cars and thinking of G force.  Some
scientists concur it would be nearly impossible to go in a straight line.
Actually, it engages Einstein's relativity, so one could say that as with
time, it is an illusion and rather more of a holographic experience based upon
a warp/bubble and perception.  So, perhaps a better relationship with bobbin
lace.  Perhaps better this; related to chat.
Interesting the nuances of the human brain and it's experiences and
references.  Best,Susan Reishus
