A quick search found that A.M.S. was Miss Mary Sharp. The preface in the
book gives A.M.S. as living at Ufton Court, a beautiful Elizabethan house in
Berkshire, in 1899.

Also in Thomas Wright (The Romance of the Lace Pillow) the book is listed in
the appendices 'Sharp, Miss Mary. Point and Pillow Lace, by A.M.S. 1899'. It
seems she also wrote or co-wrote a number of books on large houses including
Badminton House as well as Ufton Court.

lace,
most notably "Point and Pillow Lace" by A.M.S. published in 1899 (no clue
as
to who "A.M.S." was), and also to "Old Lace" by M. Jourdain, published in
1909;
and both of them appear to have in mind mostly Venetian Rose Point and its
var-
ious relatives (all needle laces). The books themselves are delightful,
partic-
ularly the Jourdain, full of beautiful plates. This is a book that one
cannot
put down without first looking at every page, no matter how late the
evening is
getting to be!
