The seller of the fan handles doesn't say what the handle is made of. There
are several on ebay with a painted picture - I have a couple from many, many
years ago and the fabric is silk - and the handle is plastic. They are
GBP2.70 (around USD4) each, with free p & p worldwide from Hong Kong. I'm
sure it's possible to remove the fabric.
I bought some antique turned decorative wooden fan handles (or more
accurately hand screens) many years ago on ebay for next to nothing, but
haven't got around to doing anything with them yet.
