Dear Arachnids, Given the review from Sue Harvey, I consulted my library for those on Arachne who might be interested in making Carrickmacross Lace (applique on a foundation fabric, decorative stitches made with a threaded needle). "Carrickmacross Lace - from Beginner to Expert" by Mollie Butler & Alexandra Trubshaw, a 112-page Hardback published by Batsford in 1990. "The Art & Craft of Carrickmacross Lace" by Sheila Regan, a 51-page Paperback published by author in 1993. ISBN 0-9521749-0-1 History, comprehensive list of materials needed, 4 nice small mat projects, diagrammed filling stitches
"Lasadoireacht - A Practical Workbook for Carrickmacross Lace - Vols. 1 & 2" by Mary Shields. 36 pp. per Paperback volume, published by Wee-Hills Publishing in several editions. Most recent on my shelves is 1998. Vol. 1: 0-9519910-0-0; Vol. 2: 0-9519910-1-9. Workbook style. Lots to learn, interesting projects include collars, scarf end, fingerless hand mitts, bib, jabot, photo mount, handkerchief corner. Weldon's - this is a publisher of many needlework books which have been re-published in modern editions. Carrickmacross will be found in some of them. Most of these books are available for members to borrow from the International Old Lacers in the U.S. Or try Interlibrary Loan, which is available in many countries (though perhaps by a different name). It is the library service that obtains books not on the shelves of your local library. Students use this service. So can you.
