I was cruising the website today, and realized that 4000 items from the Brooklyn Museum had been added to the Costume Institute part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's website. These include a number of pieces of very nice lace. One of them, 2009.300.3467, I contacted the Brooklyn Museum about, a decade ago, and they could not locate it. The project has been, as I understand it, to take the 20,000 or so best objects from the Brooklyn Museum's legendary costume collection to make this collection within the MMA. I think the pieces continue to be jointly owned. If you go to _www.metmuseum.org_ (http://www.metmuseum.org) click on Collection Database in the left column. Then enter "Costume Institute" for department and "lace" for keyword. All the pieces from the Costume Institute are numbered 2009.300. They start on p.2 of this search. Of particular note are 2009.300.3467, 2009.300.1327, 2009.300.2055 and 2009.300.3500. There are also many other things of interest, since this represents the best of the Brooklyn Museum Collection. Among the lace are pieces that belonged to lace author Clara Blum's collection, and items of clothing that belonged to Rita de Acosta Lydig, who was a devoted lace collector, but also wore very old lace. Her lace adorned shoes are well known, but here are other items of hers,2009.300 1239a,2009.300 1240,2009.300 1241. This last is a garment from the 1920s which incorporates what looks like ancient filet lace, although it must have been newly made. This is a really stunning use of lace that is not usually considered for use in costume. People who are lovers of costume might want to look at all 4000 items which include folk costume and fashion costume. If so, go to Collection database, Costume Institute, and enter "Brooklyn" in key word. Devon You may be able to get directly to page 2 of the search by cutting and pasting this very long url. _http://www.metmuseum.org/works_of_art/collection_database/the_costume_insti tute/listview.aspx?page=2&sort=0&sortdir=asc&keyword=lace&fp=1&dd1=8&dd2=0&h i=0&ov=0_ (http://www.metmuseum.org/works_of_art/collection_database/the_costume_institute/listview.aspx?page=2&sort=0&sortdir=asc&keyword=lace&fp=1&dd1 =8&dd2=0&hi=0&ov=0)
