Art quilts are the most serious and commonly practiced textile craft in the
U.S., all over the country, as far as I can see.  I live in a suburb of
Chicago and every yard goods store has quilt fabrics and how-to booklets.
Some knitting and crochet yarns exist, but not  in much variety and just about
the only embroidery threads are stranded floss and pearl cotton.  Cross stitch
embroidery is popular, from charts and kits mostly.  Embroidery fabrics don't
exist in much variety either.  Aida is the easiest to find.

Paper crafts seem popular, collage and decoupage.

Without the internet we would never find materials or contacts.  Crafts in
America -- its depressing.
