I am getting together information for a short article on chip carving and "scrimshaw" on lace bobbins.

I seem to remember that there was a place in France that used to (I believed they have now stopped) highly carve their bobbins. They were sort of short and fat? It was a "wood carving" sort of tourist place... I think towards the Swiss border?????

Can anyone tell me
1. where it was,
2. Where I can find a pictures of one... or even buy one.

The other antique bobbins that almost come into this category are the beautiful coloured (often) and carved antique Normandy bobbins. These are of interest to me also.

Thanks a lot.
