Reading the letters on making bobbins, brought to mind the people I have bought bobbins from since I started in 1976. Sadly some have retired or died, but we are fortunate in that others have taken their place. David Springett, who came to the first Lace Day I organised in 1979/80 Also there were Chrisken, Nick from SMP Lace and Ken Travers. Barry Adams who worked in ivory from old piano keys and enticed me with Alan and Sheila bobbins. These were the first of many in building the family trees! David Naylor who also used ivory and mammoth and died suddenly at 48. Bryn Phillips who made Xmas bobbins with Father Christmases, some of which were different. If you had one he then gave you a bone bobbin as a pressie. He also made special bobbins for the Armada defeat in 1588. Today, we have Acorn bobbins (bone), Hudson, Stuart Johnson et alia. The list of UK bobbin makers is endless and my apologies for not including them all, but they still all tempt us keep that heritage alive and after all you can always do with another bobbin or two!!!
