Hello All! After seeing the photo of bobbins made from beads & dowel, I
remembered the class I took to learn to make them, but didn't make the
connection with the swizzler until now. In the class, we glued one pony bead
on the dowel to make the top knob, then several others to create a wide spot at
the bottom of the shaft. Nice restaurants often serve after dinner
espresso/coffee with a sugar swizzler, or they can be purchased in a specialty
shop (pricey). I always thought they were cute & hated to throw them away so I
now have a small collection. I have been using them to add threads because
they are so slim & have only a pre-finished knob on the top. They are easy to
clip to a bobbin that is running out of thread & the thread is readily re-wound
on a "real" bobbin after the new thread is established. But--how easy would it
be to add beads on the shaft to actually make a bobbin?! And I need some with
larger capacity if I want to try the large scale lace scarves that
were featured on marieclaireidees. Thanks for posting the pics! Now hunting
for beads & glue!! Sincerely, Susan Hottle, Erie, PA
