Dear Lacemakers,

Many many postings over several days, which I just read all at one sitting
(whew!), and noone mentioned that there might be a long-term effect on
thread held in place with adhesives.

Your suggestions may (and the word "may" is being used in this sentence
with caution) be fine if you are a lacemaker who finishes right up, but there
are a lot of lacemakers who keep several projects going over a long period
of time.

If you are slow to finish lace projects, please think twice about any
adhesive that might off-gas on threads or become extra sticky from humidity or
heat. Unless we know the manufacturers' formulas and have the special
training to be able to attest that these products - in all climates, over a
long period of time - will not damage your working threads, be forewarned!

Then, too, there is the matter of adhesives being attractive meals to
micro-organisms, which leave behind trails of stains, their own remains, and
threads that have been partially eaten. Too, we have read on this list of
larger critters (mice, for example) being attracted to special waxes used on
threads that attached beads to textiles. We must always be mindful of such
things. Oh!

Arachne members who are reading advice here live in all climates, and their
lace supplies must stand up to unusual "conditions"!
