Hi Alice Thanks for the info that she now lists the thread as Pella 70/3 - it confirms what I had guessed at.
The only think I wouldn't be too keen to do is to substitute a two ply perle thread for a three ply linen; because it will work up very much softer which is probably not what is required for an alter cloth edging, but either of the Cordonnets (30 or 40) or a similar thickness of any other 2S/3Z cotton crochet cotton would be fine.
