Lesley I have not heard the term "cabled gimp" but I have seen something which might be described that way. In Russian tape lace gimps are sometimes run down the center of the narrow tape and there are several ways of working them. Sometimes they are twisted or crossed over each other, or the weavers go through them in an unusual way, and this creates a sort of cabled appearance. I found photos of this in DMC's DIE KLOEPPELSPITZEN, the 2nd volume of their bobbin lace, and in entirely on tape lace (braid lace). The book below is the one, and it is available from the website below as a free download. I don't know exactly what part has what you need. But it is in there. I have the book on my shelf.
