I went straight to the article, no problem. What a great article for you, and
for spreading the word on bobbin lace. That's the sort of thing we need more
of. Thank you for doing what seems to be more than your share of personally
spreading the fine art of lacemaking. Kudos to you. Those in lacemaking
countries, England, France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, perhaps Australia,
(don't know, haven't been, but it sure sounds like it from our Aussie members,)
and others, have no real idea as to the essential desert of lacemakers, with a
few oases of lacemakers, the United States is. I know some here will disagree,
they have in the past, but even if we have as many lacemakers as England, they
would be spread out over such a vast area as to not be noticeable. Certainly
the prospect of having a group of lacemakers in what would be my village who
meet on Monday mornings is not something I ever hope to see. I travel an hour
and a half each way, in good traffic, to my lace gro
up once a month when I have the chance. There may be a closer one, but that
is an hour away, but at night. In the midwest the trip could easily be 3-4
hours each way on a fast highway. 2 hours each way on a fast highway would not
be uncommon in the Midwest, the center of the country.

So Betty's endeavors, in the article, and in her life, are something we should
aspire to.

Lyn in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, US, where it's cloudy but mild, and most people
are going frantic preparing for Thanksgiving. I hosted 13 on Sunday. First
time in 8 years, my health is improving.
