OK... I can't remember where I learned this or whether it is accurate or not.... But, I'm suspecting that it came as a result of my study of Art History in college (it was my major, believe it or not...). Anyway, I believe that the expression, "turn a good leg", comes from the period when men wore tights (stockings), and the more muscular the leg, the more "exciting" for the women. So... those totally out-of-shape men who had skinny legs *did* pad their legs with specially made (and accurately shaped) pads, the more to turn the handsome leg. Funny thing is, I can see the women whispering behind their fans much as women today do when they see a "bad rug". After all, when a leg is "really" turned, those muscles move and change, don't they... not so with a pad!!
