This website http://www.royalcollection.org.uk/eGallery/exhibition.asp?exhibition=FANS shows fans from an exhibition "Unfolding Pictures: Fans in the Royal Collection" (2005), which had a number of lovely lace fans belonging to the Queen. You have to pick them out, there are a lot of other fans as well, and some that look like lace from the thumbnail turn out not to be - one of the earliest, c 1600, looked like lace, but turns out to be cut leather! As it seems to be imitating lace, maybe actual lace fans were around at the time. There's lots of detailed information about each fan, so it's well worth studying. Sorry this is a bit late, I'm only just catching up on digests. Happy 2011 to everyone. - To unsubscribe send email to [email protected] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [email protected].
