"I looked up Vologda Lace...(web site below,) "tatting with bobbins"! http://russia.rin.ru/guides_e/4209.html" Diane Z
Interesting in the mention of Russian lace (Vologda just mentioned), I am reading the book: "The Last Days of the Romanovs: Tragedy at Ekaterinburg by Helen Rappaport" and of note, the Tsarist (Alexandra from Germany, wife of Tsar Nicholas), spent at least two of her last three days of life, "making lace." A sad read about the dark side of humanity at it's worst, I was touched by Alexandra's daily interest in needlework, which was passed down to the four daughters, and encouraged daily. Heartening to know that her priority her last three days was in "making lace." The mention (if memory serves) is on page 167 and 177, the book noting her third to last and last day's activities. They both (Tsar and Tsarist) journaled, so there is an actual accounting of their days.
