Members of The International Old Lacers, Inc. can see 7 color pictures of some of the poppy laces on the inside back cover of the Winter 2009/2010 (Volume 30, Number 2) issue of the bulletin that members receive. Or, if you are not a member but belong to a local lace group, perhaps someone else has the bulletin. The background color of this particular bulletin is pink. Incidentally, the Withof poppys by Susie Johnson are pictured. There is also a Polychrome Blonde example by Ulrike Voelcker (not the Chantilly lace she will be teaching in England). Chantilly Lace:Tutor Ulrike Voelcker (Lohr) from Germany Withof Lace: Tutor Susie Johnson from USA Needlelace: Tutor Catherine Barley. A sample for Complete Beginners, Point de Gaze (Intermediate) and Figurative Stumpwork (some needlelace experience). Ulrike Voelcker needs no introduction and although I believe this will be her first visit to teach in the UK, her reputation goes before her with beautiful examples of her work portrayed along with wonderful working diagrams in the many excellent books she has published on various lace techniques. We feel proud and honoured that she has agreed to come and tutor for us. Susie Johnson whilst perhaps little known here in the UK has studied Withof for many years with Jeannet van Oord, both in the US and the Netherlands. She has also studied with Sister Judith herself in the Netherlands and won numerous awards in competitions, having her work exhibited in many countries. She started studying Withof in 1990 and began teaching it in 1993. Her work is exquisite and she is in great demand in the US so we are extremely fortunate that she is able to come and teach for us here in the UK. Catherine Barley I think needs no introduction but has come out of retirement to assist Pompi Parry in bringing the Poppy Exhibition over here to the UK and 'fly the flag' for Britain.
