Clay An interesting piece. I love the bright colors. Interesting to find an ebay seller who actually admits she doesn't know anything about lace. More often they claim to be experts and use all the key words to make the item sound hot. At the degree of enlargement we have in the photos, I'm not sure it is possible to be sure if it is machine made or handmade. The color changes don't stay in neat columns. It appears to imitate polychrome blonde. If it is real, the buyer got it at a steal price. Even hand embroidery would make it worth its sale price. But if you are right about machine lace, then it is a nice piece of personal decoration, and I suppose a boutique price would be appropriate. Thanks for telling us about it.
It brings to mind a fragment of multicolored silk bobbin lace, a part lace, which I saw at the Art Institute of Chicago many years ago. The flowers were made in units with yellow centers and colored outer petals, resulting in some plaid petals. The background was black and appeared hand made, since it sewed into the edges of the motifs. A marvelously wacky wild piece which I will never forget.
