I have just noticed 10 Archibald Abbott bobbin on eBay (270704118177)

Looking at ten of them in a row you can see the huge variation in the shape of
the heads. A recent sale of Abbott bobbins by the Springetts shows the
variations that he does with the tails.

Though I "ID bobbin makers" almost everyday and it can be a simple, straight
forward affair when applying Springetts criteria, or it can be a very "hit and
miss" because of such variations as I have pointed out.

I am sure I make mistakes in some of my IDs; I sometimes wonder if it really
matters. A great bobbin is a great bobbin no matter if we know its maker or
not.

We must accept that we do not know all the makers. Thanks to David and
Christine we seem to know the elite (and not so elite!!) Otherwise "maker
unknown" is quite acceptable.

BTW These are Abbott bobbins as he is virtually unique in using the "screw
thread" decoration.
