I wonder if this stamp is at all connected with Spanier Arbeit. I haven't
been able to find any information whatsoever on the work depicted - and the
veiled woman is also quite a shock. I do know that the threads are gold and
silver, and the work is meant to decorate men's costume. It was produced by
the United Arab Emirates in 1999

look at the stamp at the left. Maybe this craft survived in some unexpected
places.
In trying to see what is on the web about this work, I see a few references
from my good friends Lotus and Edward Stack who have traveled extensively in
the area. She was curator of the department of textiles at the Minneapolis
Institute of Arts for years, she and her husband would travel in this area
researching obscure textile arts. They have thousands of photos - I'm
writing to them now. If I can get enough together from various sources I'll
do a piece on LaceNews.
