Hi, I wondered if anyone has experience of Orenburg lace knitting? I am trying to knit the pattern 'Olga's Indiski (indian) Shawl' from Piecework May-June 2009. I have got to the point where I need to pick up the slipped edge of the outer border to knit the inner border. However, the 'pick up and knit' method that I know doesn't look right, and I am not sure how to interpret the instructions. 'Pick up 189 slipped-edge stitches along the straight edge of the border from the same direction (either from the back or front) by placing needle through loops. Work Border Section 2 as charted ....' Does this mean that the loops become the stitches? Or do I draw through the yarn in some way? Which part of the slipped edge stitch do I use? ('front' or 'back' of the stitch? Conventionally I would draw the yarn under both). Unfortunately the picture of the worked shawl is too small for me to see any detail. I've searched the web but have not yet found any such technique described. I feel sure I am missing something obvious and will feel very stupid when it is explained to me.
Many thanks,
Jane
