Hello All! You have the advantage on me--as you know I didn't bring my pillows to Florida so it's been a "mostly embroidery" vacation, rather than lacemaking. Does it count if I've dreamed up some new ideas?? I did have the opportunity to visit with SFFG (South Florida Fiber Guild), a charming & cordial group that includes Lacemakers (!!), weavers, spinners, knitters & all manner of textile/fiber artistes. We enjoyed a lovely show & tell day at Purple Susan's home, followed by lunch. After my mother died last month, the assisted care facility managed to find most of the items that I had given her so I took along examples of Torchon, Mirecourt & Roumanian. Several of the gals brought hand spun and hand dyed fibers, some of which had been knit or woven into scarves & shawls. That reminded me of the large roller pillow that is awaiting my attention when I return. Large scale lace takes much less material & gives equally (or more!) interesting results when using funky fib ers & I plan to start with a test strip of Oliver Twist embellishment threads. Colors & textures galore! Since I thought I would be the only lacemaker at the meeting, I made a dessert to share--Hedgehog Cookies. Delicious & fun to make, the little critters made lots of new friends. Sincerely, Susan Hottle, getting packed to return to Erie, PA. :-(
