I know we have discussed this topic before, but don't know if I have
remembered all of the solutions. At any rate, it's something that may
bear repeating.
I'm working a large piece (over 375 bobbins). I'm using Egyptian 120/2
thread, working on a Christina Roller pillow which has a rotating apron
and the "wings" my DH made for me. The pricking is about 6 inches wide
at the widest point, while the workable width of the roller is 8". I
know that part of my problem is that the pillow really isn't quite large
enough. But, the advantages of the rotating apron and the raised level
of "wings" on which I can park unused bobbins outweigh the problem of
misbehaving bobbins on the edge sides.
The problem is that when I am working the left side, the bobbins roll
to the left, and eventually they "untwist", and then part with a sigh.
I've made a habit of twisting them until they no longer kink when I am
done with work on that side, but eventually, they still break. I can
see that even when I have re-twisted them, the two plies are still
somewhat loosely twisted. I also note that before I re-hang the
bobbin, the thread still looks loose unless I let the thread hand and
twist until it stops... and then I unreel new thread from the bobbin
and cut off the old leash, because I think the thread was probably
damaged back to - and possibly beyond - the hitch. It is quite
annoying, and I'm wondering if there is something else I can do.
It's obvious to me that I'm not having the same problem on the right
side, because if the bobbins roll on that side, it only tightens the
twist, and no harm is done. I still do the un-twist to any threads on
that side that are kinking.
Thanks in advance for any solutions!
