When I started to make lace it was in a period when people actually used
Overhead Projectors rather than light projectors to show presentations.

The first time that I set up my honiton pillow my fellow lacemakers at the
group I attended suggested that instead of just putting on a number of cover
cloths or one with a hole in it, first I should cover the unused area with
pieces of OHP acetate then the cover cloth.

I must admit that I thought they were a little mad until I started to come
back in circles due to the pattern and suddenly I'm working over where I have
worked before heading towards the pins and there is nothing to catch on
because of the acetate.

I promptly went out a bought a whole box of acetates and discovered that over
20 years I've used about 6 sheets because they wear so well and if the areas
where you pinned them down start to wear large you just trim them back and
carry on.

I'm currently working on a circular piece from 50 new bobbin lace patterns by
Claire Burkhard and have just started to head back to the starting point so
I'll be getting the OHP acetates out this afternoon to start to place round
the pillow.
