I made my first lace pillow from a nearly flat slab of polystyrene
packaging which I begged from a washing machine shop. I covered it in
dark blue poly cotton fabric - the polystyrene didn't stand up to use
very well, but it was good enough to start me off.

For my second pillow, I had a circle of plywood in a round bag of dark
green thick cotton fabric - I stuffed the bag with chopped
rabbit-bedding-straw, but I never got that firm enough to be good.

Then I got into buying pillows - don't ask me how many I have now ...
or where I keep them <G>.

Margery.
