Hi Lyn

I've checked with the little book 'Queen Victoria's Wedding Dress and Lace' by Kay Staniland and Santina Levey published, I believe, in 1983. The book says that even then the lace flounce was too fragile to mount for display. The flounce is 25.1/2 inches deep and four yards in circumference. It was also reused quite a number of time for other Royal weddings and christenings etc. and also worn by her daughter, Princess Beatrice for her wedding.

What a wonderful show, great closeups. Thank you so much. I've got a question, however. I read that Victoria wanted to encourage the Honiton lace industry, which had lately been depressed due to change in styles, so she had her dress trimmed in large amounts of it. The dress on display, however, while it has a deep Bertha, does not have a skirt flounce, which I thought should be there. Tales of 200 lacemakers working for 9 months. Is this what the royal christening gown is made of, the one that was just retired? Where is the lace? Or am I out to sea?
