Haha Jean .... LOL

My mum was a dressmaker and did a very similar thing about the same time.... the wedding dress had an overdress of guipure lace and the bridesmaids dresses were edged in the same lace at the neck, waist and sleeves.... one bridesmaid came from way down south somewhere and we had to rely on her mum sending her measurements up.... mum took one look at the measurements and said 'either this girl is tiny and fat or mums measured to her knees!! we lengthened the dress when cutting it by about 8 inches, but it was still too short! Not enough material or time to make another so we lengthened the dress by putting another 6 inches on the bottom.... then hid the seam with a line of lace round at that point on all the bridesmaids dresses!! So.... Sarah Burton must have got her ideas and inspiration from my mum as well!!

In actual fact Sarah Burton got her inspiration from me. :-D

I made my own wedding dress in 1962. It had a top made of very expensive lace (machine made of course) and a frothy tulle skirt. I cut out motifs from the lace left over from the top and appliquéd them onto the tulle skirt. It was cut up and used for other things over a very few years.
