I am currently on vacation in Puerto Rico, and visited the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico today, primarily to see the lace curtain in the theatre there. I had spotted it on the internet, and it is part of the slide show of the home page of the Museum. Sadly it is no longer displayed in the theatre : Apparently they stopped using it about a year ago. As far as I understand they had been having dif ficulties in keeping the lace taut, and so decided to stop displaying it.
This was a huge piece of bobbin lace worked in Puerto Rico - a map of the world -Â The curtain was a collaboration between Antonio Martorell, one of Puerto Rico's most noted visual and graphic artists and a collective of tejedoras (lacemakers), the Borinquen Lacers. Anyway, I can't find the original link, and am kicking myself for not phoning ahead to check it was still there. To add insult to injury the museum's highly acclaimed restaurant was also shut! On a Saturday lunchtime too! Cheetos and a can of coke from the vending machine became lunch!
