While visiting in Germany last year, I had the very good fortune of
being able to buy a book entitled, "Lace: Wealth for the Rich, Blessing
for the Poor". It is a documentation of a project funded by the
Leonardo da Vinci foundation, and involved groups from six European
countries. Each group chose a portrait to represent the lace of their
country, and then set about reconstructing the lace, as well as the
costume itself! There is a bit of history presented for each country,
as well as patterns for the lace and the costume. It is a remarkable
book, and I treasure it. It was produced in an extremely small edition
(only 70 copies, I believe), and is no longer available unless a new
printing has been done.
The pictures of the gowns in the Brioude exhibit are (mostly) the
costumes made for this project. They were each designed and made by a
different group of people. The countries represented are Belgium,
Germany, Italy, Malta, Slovenia, and Spain.

Thank you for posting the link to the dress designer's website. She does very
interesting work, very unusual.
